Dear Conway School Students and Parents,

It is my great pleasure to greet you for the 2018-19 school year.  2018-19……Wow!!  Isn’t it amazing to think that the year 2020 is just around the corner?   For the past 6 years we have sung the song,  “Hello Conway” on the first days of school.  It’s a reminder to everyone to get ready, get set…’s time to learn.

As we prepare ourselves for classwork, musical programs and concerts, I just wanted to say that I’m honored to be a part of such a fantastic teaching staff and doubly honored to be able to work with Conway Families of our Conway School Community.

As our dates for programs become set I’ll make every effort to keep this homepage updated.  To begin with we do have our first musical program scheduled.  It is perhaps our most important performance during our school year…..Veterans Day.  As we all know,  Veterans Day is a time for us to honor veterans in our Conway Community.  The 11th Month, the 11th Day:  This year, the 11st day of November falls on a Sunday.  Therefore, will have the Conway Veterans Day Program on :

Thursday,  November 8th          1:45 – 2:45

For Veterans Day we will have all band students participating.  5th Grade through 8th Grade.  We will also have the students participate in the singing of our service songs as well as our traditional selection,  “Bless Our Troops.”  We look forward to hosting all the local veterans that can possibly be there.

The following events will be assigned dates and times during the next few days.  We will post these times as soon as they are decided upon:

  • Elementary Holiday Program (K - 4)
  • Holiday Band Concert  (5 – 8)
  • 5th Grade Band:  Skagit Valley Orchestra Concert  -  January 24th (Time TBA)
  • SJMEA Solo & Ensemble Contest (Hopeful Conway Participants)
  • Band Contest Concert  (5 – 8)
  • SJMEA Band Large Group Contest
  • Grand Parents Tea Performance (K- 4)
  • Middle School Band Field Trip
  • Final 2018-19 Band Spring Concert

As you can see we do have quite a few music dates to deal with throughout our school year.  We hope that these dates do not conflict with family or school activities, however, conflicts are inevitable.  If you do have conflicts with any of the dates that come up don’t be bashful about telling Mr. Rawson.  Alternative arrangements can be made in most instances.

Again,  I look forward to getting the school year started.  One of the major differences this year is the fact that we have already checked out instruments to many of our 5th Graders.  We should be able to get started with making music very soon after the school year starts.  Those 5th Graders that have come in during the summer and already have instruments, please make sure you bring them on the first day you have band.  We hope to start playing right away.

Please feel free to call or email me at any time.  Your questions are very important.

With Regards,

Bennie W. Rawson – Conway Band & Elementary General Music.
